Delaware Looking Into Possibility of Opening Family Court Proceedings to Public

August 28, 2013

The Delaware Legislature recently passed a resolution requesting a study to examine the possibility of opening Family Court proceedings to the public. Delaware's legislature has shown a long history of interest in opening such proceedings, beginning in 1992. In 1997, the legislature created a task force to investigate the possibility of opening the Family Court and encouraged the court to independently research the possibility. Following these efforts, the Family Court did open some proceedings and the 2013 resolution, SCR9, expands on this progress. The review must be complete by February 15, 2014.
