IAALS Thanks Two Departing Board Members, and Welcomes New Additions

March 6, 2014

As we strive to improve the American legal system, we do so in collaboration with some of the best minds in the country. It is through the expertise and guidance of these partners that we are able to forge innovative and practical solutions to the problems in our system. In short, our advisors make our work possible.

As we begin 2014 we say farewell and a profound 'thank you' to two board members who have provided several years of invaluable service:

Pamela Robillard Mackey, shareholder at Haddon, Morgan, and Foreman, P.C., in Denver, Colorado, has been recognized over the last several years as one of the top 10 lawyers in Colorado. She was formerly with the Colorado Public Defender's Office. She is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers  and is a past president of the Colorado Women's Bar Association.

Tom Gottschalk, Of Counsel to Kirkland & Ellis in Washington, D.C., is active in a number of organizations related to legal reform and support for independent judiciaries. He practiced at Kirkland from 1967 to 1994, specializing in commercial litigation. He joined General Motors Corporation as its General Counsel in 1994 and retired from the company in 2007 as Executive Vice‐President for Law & Public Policy. He then rejoined Kirkland, where he resumed his litigation practice.

While Pamela and Tom can never be replaced, we are pleased to welcome two new board members who have taken up the mantle—both of whom are longtime friends of IAALS and contributors to our mission:

Chief Justice Ruth V. McGregor (Ret.) served on the Arizona Supreme Court from February 1998 until June 2009. She was the Court's Chief Justice from June 2005 until her retirement. She was also a member of the Arizona Court of Appeals from 1989 until 1998, where she served as Chief Judge from 1995 to 1997. Before her appointment to the bench, Justice McGregor engaged in the private practice of law as a member of the Fennemore Craig law firm in Phoenix, Arizona. She served as law clerk to Justice Sandra Day O'Connor during Justice O'Connor's first term on the United States Supreme Court. Justice McGregor has participated extensively in professional activities, particularly those involving legal education and the discipline of lawyers and judges, and in organizations dedicated to assuring a fair and impartial judiciary.
