Touro Law Center the Newest Member of a Growing Consortium

September 6, 2013

We are pleased to announce the newest member of our Consortium of law schools committed to innovation: Touro Law Center.

Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg School of Law (Touro Law Center) has been an innovator in the field of legal education for more than twenty years. In 1991, Touro Law Center began work on a plan to introduce "verticality" into the curriculum: a process by which students would learn progressively more sophisticated lawyering skills over the course of their legal education. Since then, Touro Law Center has created courses that combine teaching methods that promote the acquisition of cognitive skills and a knowledge of substantive law with instruction in the skills and the professional values.

Among Touro's latest projects is its ProBono Uncontested Divorce Project, a required part of the experiential curriculum for first year students that also helps students to satisfy New York's new pro bono requirements. The project was recently featured in preLaw Magazine.

"Touro Law has been providing innovative experiential opportunities for our students for many years. We have developed great working relationships with members of the bar and bench that benefit our students,” said Dean Patricia Salkin. “Membership in the Educating Tomorrow's Lawyers Consortium solidifies publicly our long-standing commitment to advancing experiential learning in legal education."

Touro Law Center will join the rest of the Consortium in Denver, October 3-5, 2013, for our 2nd Annual Educating Tomorrow's Lawyers Conference: Connecting the Academy and the Profession.
