University of Denver Alum Karen Mathis Honored with Community Service Award

March 14, 2013

Last week, IAALS Associate Executive Director Karen J. Mathis was presented with the Community Service Award by the University of Denver. As part of the DU Founders Day celebration, Karen and five other award honorees spent an intimate evening with their family and friends for their induction to the Wall of Honor on Wednesday, followed by the Gala event downtown at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday.

Karen came to IAALS after a distinguished professional career, which included serving as president of the ABA, Executive Director of the Central European and Eurasion Legal Initiative Institute in Prague, and President and CEO of Big Brother Big Sisters of America. But, it all began at the University of Denver, where she went to college.

I think the amazing thing about receiving this award, also at this time in my life, is that I'm going to finish my professional career being involved in the forefront of legal thought and improving the system, and I'm going to do it right here at the University of Denver, which is where it all started.
