About Educating Tomorrow's Lawyers

Educating Tomorrow’s Lawyers is an initiative of IAALS dedicated to aligning legal education with the needs of an evolving profession. Working with a Consortium of law schools and a network of leaders from both law schools and the legal profession, Educating Tomorrow’s Lawyers develops solutions to support effective models of legal education.

The legal market is changing, and legal employers and members of the profession are increasingly calling on law schools to make changes to the way they educate lawyers. Meanwhile, more information, data, and resources are being developed to help law schools and legal educators improve their programs and demonstrate greater value to students and the profession. Educating Tomorrow’s Lawyers is at that intersection, bringing the profession and law schools together to solve the challenges before us.

Educating Tomorrow's Lawyers is a national initiative that works with a consortium of law schools and a network of leaders, including legal educators, employers, lawyers, and judges, to align legal education with the needs of an evolving profession.

Educating Tomorrow’s Lawyers launched in 2011 with a narrower objective: to support innovative law schools and legal educators that are leading the way to better law programs and better outcomes for law graduates. We continue to do this, most notably through our Law School Consortium, our Fellows, and our annual conference. But we also do much more.

Shortly after our launch, it became clear that law schools must partner with the legal profession and legal employers to build a system of legal education that trains entry-level lawyers to the highest standards of competence and professionalism.

Educating Tomorrow’s Lawyers fosters a constructive dialogue among the stakeholders in legal education, while conducting research to build trusted data and informed approaches to support these conversations.
