In October, the Midwest Region Summit will be held in Kansas City, Missouri, to discuss implementation of the Recommendations of the Conference of Chief Justices. The Summit will consist of a dynamic mixture of plenary sessions, workshops, and state team planning sessions. The purpose of the Summit is to encourage each state to learn about civil justice reform efforts nationwide, and to provide each state with an opportunity to develop an action plan for reform or other activities in their respective jurisdictions.

A Convening on Summary Judgment and Dispositive Motions

IAALS hosted a convening at the Penrose House in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in November for a small group of judges, attorneys, and scholars from around the country focused on the current challenges of summary judgment and dispositive motions practice, and solutions designed to decrease cost and delay.

IAALS and the National Judicial College co-hosted this webcast for state court judges at no cost. This session provided a fundamental-level discussion of the rules and case law undergirding e-discovery, discovery sanctions, and spoliation. The webcast remains available on the NJC’s website, and we encourage judges to take advantage of this free and easily accessible education.
