The Civil Jury Trial

The civil jury trial is important to our system for so many reasons. Jurors keep our system grounded and anchored in real life. They ensure that we focus on what is important, both in the case at hand and system-wide. They bring transparency to the process. And, they offer a way for our citizens to have a direct role in our government.

Despite this important role, civil trials in the United States are vanishing, with only approximately 1% of cases reaching trial. The Rule One Initiative recognizes the importance of the civil jury trial and supports projects aimed at ensuring its continued viability.
