Multi-Stage Probate Dispute Simulation - Negotiation
Professor John Lande uses this multi-stage simply probate dispute simulation in his Negotation course at the University of Missouri School of Law. The case involves two siblings in a dispute over the estate of their recently deceased mother. The mother’s will favors one sibling and the central legal issue is whether it was executed under undue influence. Students are provided a package of materials that includes role-play instructions, written assignments, logistical information for each stage, self-assessment forms, and teaching notes. Throughout the simulation, half the students play parties and half play lawyers. Other simulations in the course allow for students to reverse roles.
