IAALS ended the month of October with an engaging and invigorating board meeting. We left that gathering on a high note and, as we enter into this month of gratitude, I am reminded of just how appreciative I am of all of our partners, both past and present. I view everyone who is involved in IAALS’ work and aligned with our mission as a partner—from our board of advisors, University of Denver partners, funders, project partners and fellow system reformers to those with varying voices and opinions—and all are essential for achieving meaningful change.

Convening and partnership are at the heart of how IAALS works, and I am proud to continue to nurture that legacy. I have had the pleasure of spending time this fall connecting and reconnecting with so many. That connection and collaboration is essential to the type of transformational system-wide change that is needed to improve our justice system, and I am grateful for everyone who is working to achieve justice for all.

The nomination window for the 2023 Alli Gerkman Legal Visionary Award, which recognizes innovators who have made significant impacts early in their legal careers toward making the American legal system work better for everyone, is open through December 1.

The award is designed to encourage and showcase innovators, risk takers, visionaries, and emerging leaders who bring a different perspective and a reform-minded approach to the improvement of our legal system. Candidates should be early in their legal careers to be eligible, roughly the first 15 years.
IAALS will review the nominations and select the recipient, which will be presented at our Rebuilding Justice Award Dinner in April. Nominations can be made here.
