Louisiana Supreme Court Candidate Goes on the Offensive

December 7, 2012

The campaign for a seat on Louisiana’s supreme court has taken a negative turn, with the Democratic candidate sponsoring an ad attacking Republican Jeff Hughes’ record as a trial court judge. Hughes has made a campaign issue of opponent John Michael Guidry’s lack of trial court experience, likening it to “a surgeon who has never been in the operating room,” but Guidry describes his efforts as a court of appeals judge to “correct” many of Hughes’ decisions. The two candidates are facing off in a December 8 runoff election.
