As we launch into the fall, we are excited about the many opportunities to connect with our partners at meetings and conferences, share out the work we have been doing all summer, and gather for important discussions. We are also preparing for IAALS’ upcoming National Summit on Judicial Leadership. Co-hosted with the Berkeley Judicial Institute, this event will gather judicial leaders from across the country for transformative discussions and meaningful peer collaboration.
The summit offers a crucial opportunity to strengthen leadership, jumpstart innovation, and create the connections and collaboration that are so essential for change. We have these goals in mind across all of our work at IAALS, and we look forward to a busy fall and the many opportunities to create—and be a part of—these important dialogues.

Updates from IAALS
Do you know someone with a bold vision for a more just legal system? Someone who has tirelessly worked to turn that vision into a reality? We want to hear about them and recognize their contributions.
IAALS has opened the nomination window for the 2025 Alli Gerkman Legal Visionary Award, which recognizes innovators who have made significant impacts early in their legal careers toward making the American legal system work better for everyone. IAALS is looking for remarkable candidates—we want to hear about people who not only dream of a brighter justice system but have actively worked to transform that vision into a reality. We’re seeking individuals who are breathing fresh life into old systems, working to reestablish public trust, and reshaping the future landscape of the legal profession.
Nominations will be accepted through November 1, and the award will be presented in April 2025. Nominations can be made here.
Community Justice Advocates Apply for Utah Sandbox, Focused on Debt Collection Cases: Utah’s regulatory sandbox might include a new participant: social workers from Utah State University’s Community Justice Advocate Program, which aims to help people dealing with consumer debt. Unlike many similar programs, USU’s would be operated with lawyers in a supporting role.
