Bike Ride Celebrating the Life of Alli Gerkman to Be Held in August

May 13, 2020

UPDATE: The event has gone virtual! Due to public health concerns, there will be no organized ride, but event organizers hope you will document a beautiful bike ride on August 9 (in your commemorative jersey if you ordered one!) and/or take time to note a special memory about Alli. Please post your photo(s) and memories on the event Facebook Page dedicated to the ride and Alli (details to be added here) and use the hashtag #allisrally on Instagram.

On August 9, 2020, friends, family, and fans of Alli Gerkman will gather at the Farm House at Breckenridge Brewery in Littleton, Colorado, for Alli’s Rally: a fun, free, casual self-supported bike ride to celebrate Alli’s love for riding, her infectious laughter, and her extraordinary legacy.

A special jersey with Alli’s likeness can be purchased here; jersey orders must be placed by May 20. You can also honor Alli by making a donation to Wish for Wheels, a non-profit organization that gives new bikes and helmets to 2nd graders in Title 1 schools. The gift of a bike fosters wellness, community, higher attendance in school, better test scores, and that wonderful feeling of freedom we all know and love as we ride our bikes.

There will be a range of route options for riders of all levels, including a kid-friendly ride. Riders will gather at 8:15 a.m. and depart promptly at 8:30 a.m.; all rides will start and end at the Farm House, where participants will gather to share games, memories, and craft beers and other refreshments available for purchase.

Alli was a part of the IAALS family for eight years. She served as a Senior Director, leading our projects to reform legal education and the legal profession, including our landmark Foundations for Practice project. She was recognized nationally for her groundbreaking work to improve our legal system, including the Colorado Women’s Bar Association Mary Lathrop Trailblazer Award in 2019.

When she was diagnosed with a small-cell tumor in her breast in 2015, her passion for life and social change were amplified in ways that have forever inspired us. Alli passed away on August 31, 2019, but she is still very much with those of us who hold her in our hearts. This ride is an opportunity to celebrate Alli’s love and light within us, and to remember to carry on her incredible legacy of social justice and social change.

We can't wait to join everyone on August 9 to celebrate Alli through two of her favorite pastimes: cycling and time with family, friends, and colleagues. RSVP here.
