These distinguished individuals bring a wealth of diverse perspectives and expertise—from the bench to court administration to legal technology—that will significantly bolster our ongoing efforts to advance a modern, just, and accessible legal system.
These additions to our board underscore the value and impact of IAALS within the national movement to improve our legal system, and we’re so grateful they’re joining our ranks during a year marked by remarkable momentum and growth. Amid the recent wildfires in Maui and hurricanes from coast to coast, our hearts go out to the individuals and communities grappling with the profound impact of these disasters. These events serve as a stark reminder of the urgent reality of climate change—a crisis that has far-reaching consequences for people, the justice problems that exist in their lives, and access to justice nationwide.
As National Preparedness Month emphasizes the importance of readiness, IAALS recognizes the importance of working together to develop disaster response strategies in our justice system—in our courts, as a profession, and for the people. We encourage both state and federal courts to utilize our Disaster Protocols, developed in collaboration with a group of judges and leading experts, which provide a streamlined process for parties and the court in the wake of property damage resulting from natural disasters. While disasters bring devastation, they don't need to exacerbate the complexities of civil litigation. With these pattern discovery protocols, courts, legal professionals, and litigants can work together to mitigate discovery disputes, minimize gamesmanship, and efficiently navigate cases—ultimately bringing clarity and resolution to both parties. |
