Learning from Other Professions and Evolving the Law School Model

Rich Baer is Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Liberty Media Corporation, where he is responsible for overseeing the company's legal, regulatory, and compliance matters. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President and chief legal officer at UnitedHealth Group. Baer recently sat down with Educating Tomorrow's Lawyers to talk about legal education and how law schools can better prepare students with the practical skills they need upon graduation. In his Voices from the Field interview, he also suggests ways in which law schools can learn from other professional schools when it comes to adopting new teaching methodologies.

Rich Baer currently serves as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Liberty Media Corporation. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the company's legal, regulatory, and compliance matters. Prior to assuming his current role, Baer served as Executive Vice President and chief legal officer at UnitedHealth Group from May 2011 to January 2013. Immediately before UnitedHealth Group, he served as General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer of Qwest Communications from 2008 to 2011, and General Counsel of Qwest Communications from 2002 to 2008. Prior to joining Qwest, he served as chairman of the litigation department at the Denver law firm of Sherman & Howard.
