Wisconsin Supreme Court Candidate Urges Fellow Candidates to Share Political Views

Two candidates have filed to challenge Justice Pat Roggensack’s bid for another six-year term on the Wisconsin high court. One of those candidates has encouraged his opponents to discuss their party affiliation and how they would rule on hot-button issues with voters, despite the fact that Wisconsin judicial elections are officially nonpartisan. Roggensack is part of a four-member conservative majority on the court, so the outcome of the race could impact upcoming decisions in cases involving such issues as collective bargaining, voter ID laws, and Indian school mascots. Outside interests, which spent $6 million in a 2011 race, are already opening their coffers. The primary election is February 19, with the general election on April 2.
