Karen Mathis to Receive Community Service Award at University of Denver Founders Day Gala
The University of Denver has announced the award recipients for its Annual Founders Day Gala, and we are proud to announce that IAALS Associate Executive Director Karen J. Mathis is among them. Karen, a 1972 graduate of the University, will receive the Community Service Award, which is presented to alumni who have been heavily and continuously involved in major community activities and charitable causes, either as a professional or as a volunteer—both of which describe Karen.
Karen was the third woman to serve as ABA president and the first president from Colorado. Her ABA service followed a distinguished career in private practice, and, after her Presidency, she served as Executive Director of the Central European and Eurasion Legal Initiative (CEELI) Institute in Prague and then as President and CEO of Big Brother Big Sisters of America, the nation's largest donor-based volunteer network of mentors for youth. Karen has been on IAALS' Board of Advisors since we opened, and she now serves as our Associate Executive Director.
Karen will accept the Community Service award at the Gala on March 7, which celebrates the founding of the University. We are thrilled to count Karen among our IAALS family and congratulate her on this great honor.
