This convening included representatives from the seven states with active allied legal professional (ALP) programs. We discussed the general pros and cons of reciprocity in the legal profession, the ways in which a reciprocity rule would affect each state, and the elements of Oregon's existing ALP comity rule.

Through a combination of full-group discussions and breakout groups, we aimed to foster a culture of collaboration, leveraging collective expertise to adopt general guidelines around reciprocity that can be shared and adopted nationally to bring state programs closer together.

Stemming from this convening, in June 2025 IAALS published a report that reflects the insights and outcomes, including a framework for states on what to include in a reciprocity rule. Read the report here.
