Maritza Dominguez Braswell
- Magistrate Judge, United States District Court of the District of Colorado
About Maritza Dominguez Braswell
Before joining the bench, Judge Dominguez Braswell was a civil litigator with a practice focused on complex commercial litigation. She eventually became a founding member of a litigation boutique in Denver, where she gained valuable experience as a small business owner. The boutique made a name for itself in several high-profile cases in New York, and they eventually merged with a national firm, where Judge Dominguez Braswell became an equity partner.
In 2019, the Colorado Attorney General appointed her to his leadership team, naming her the Deputy for Civil Litigation and Employment. In that role, she supervised a team of almost 100 attorneys and legal professionals. While at the Colorado Attorney General’s office, she became the first person appointed to the role of Deputy for Diversity Equity and Inclusion, and in that capacity oversaw all DEI work across the entire 500+ person office.
Judge Dominguez Braswell has served on several non-profit boards, received numerous awards for her contributions to the community and legal profession, and regularly speaks on issues that impact women and minorities in the profession. She is also deeply interested in the AI revolution and speaks on the impact of AI in the legal profession, its ability to increase efficiencies, help close the access to justice gap, and change the legal landscape.
She is grateful to serve in Colorado Springs, a place she has called home since the age of twelve. When she finds time for herself, Judge Dominguez Braswell enjoys reading fiction, skiing, painting, and listening to podcasts/other discussions at the intersection of science and philosophy. She likes to work with her dog “Noche” nearby, and her favorite saying comes from her grandmother, “cada cabeza es un mundo” (every head is its own world)—a reminder that empathy is key in everything we do.
