- Director of Estates & Probate and Staff Attorney, The Commons Law Center
About Riley Gombart
Riley Gombart is the Director of Estates & Probate and a Staff Attorney at The Commons Law Center, a nonprofit law firm based in Portland, Oregon. In that role, he helps lead the development and growth of a sustainable sliding-scale legal services model designed to make estate planning and probate representation accessible to individuals and families who are traditionally priced out of the legal market. His work focuses on helping Oregon families preserve and transfer generational wealth through affordable, high-quality legal services.
In addition to representing clients, Riley plays a significant role in the operational design and scaling of The Commons Law Center's legal service delivery systems. Drawing on a background in computer technology and process improvement, he develops and implements document automation, workflow management, knowledge systems, and other operational tools that increase efficiency while maintaining quality. Through these efforts, the Estates & Probate team has approximately doubled its case-management capacity, allowing the organization to serve more clients at below-market sliding-scale rates.
Riley is particularly interested in the intersection of technology, nonprofit innovation, and access to justice, and regularly works on strategies for creating legal service models that are both financially sustainable and broadly accessible. He enjoys sharing practical lessons learned from building systems, managing growth, and balancing mission-driven service with organizational sustainability.
Riley earned his JD, with honors, from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2016, where he served as an Article Editor for the Lewis & Clark Law Review.
