Elevating Our Impact with New Development Leadership

October 14, 2025

Philanthropic support enables IAALS to deliver people-centered, practical justice reforms nationwide. To power this ability, we’re welcoming a proven leader to guide our development strategy and deepen our relationships with supporters and donors across the country.

At the end of September, Scott Patton joined IAALS as our new Director of Development. “Over the last 20 years, IAALS has established itself as the eminent changemaker in the legal field, and I’m so proud to join this incredible staff and its stakeholders across the country to deliver the promise of justice for all,” said Patton. “By strategically expanding and diversifying philanthropic support of our mission, we will widen the pathways to justice for the American people that IAALS has started to clear. I look forward to meeting our friends and partners who share that vision.”

A senior nonprofit development leader, Scott has built high-impact fundraising programs that align funders of all stripes with justice-centered missions. Most recently, as VP of Development at Undue Medical Debt, he helped build the organization’s fundraising operations and strategy, contributing to the abolition of more than $1 billion in medical debt for millions of people across the U.S. His experience also includes development and consulting roles with Donorly, the American Relief Coalition for Syria, Community Peacemaker Teams, Monterey Jazz, and Seattle Opera.

Scott’s strategic leadership, commitment to impact, and track record of mobilizing transformative support will help accelerate IAALS’ work to advance solutions that make our civil justice system more just.
