Gay Marriage and Divorce

February 28, 2013

New York Magazine has published an article discussing the intricate and often difficult path from gay marriage to divorce. The article interviews a recently divorced couple, who describe their relationship and how it ended, and give an intimate insight into the mechanics of “gay divorce.” According to the article, this particular couple is just one of many in what they see as the start of a divorce boom, which is likely due to the rising rate at which gay couples are getting married. The article also discusses the complicated legal issues that can arise in gay divorce, often caused by the differences among state marriage laws and the federal Defense of Marriage Act.
