The Impact of Divorce on Teens

March 21, 2013

In a recent article, The Huffington Post offers advice on how families with teens can better cope with divorce. Divorce can particularly stress family relationships involving teenagers; teens are already struggling to establish their identity, separate from each parent, and divorce compounds these issues. The article recommends that families work on fostering a more honest and open sharing, by making time for each other, being non-judgmental, empathizing with each other, being positive and hopeful, not being afraid to show emotion or express feelings, and maintaining hope. Additionally, parents should avoid sharing negative feelings about each other with the teen.
