Focus Groups on Creating People-Centered Legal Regulation
We need legal service providers to help us improve public participation in regulatory reform.
People-Centered Legal Regulation is a national research study led by IAALS, the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System at the University of Denver, to understand the public’s perspectives about legal services and help states better engage the public in conversations about legal regulation. Findings from this study will culminate in a set of tools and resources that states around the country can use to effectively and meaningfully engage the public in these conversations.

Why are we holding focus groups?
In the first phase of this study, we administered a national survey to gather information on the public’s perspective on receiving legal services. In the second phase, we conducted focus groups with members of the public to gain a deeper understanding of those perspectives. In the next phase, we will be conducting focus groups with nontraditional legal service providers (e.g. legal practitioners and community-based justice workers), to discuss public understanding and trust in their roles, effective messaging about legal service delivery, and the public’s role in shaping legal regulatory reform.

What does participation look like?
First, complete the Interest Form above. For those selected to participate, we will work with you to get you scheduled for one of our focus group sessions.
