Elephant in the Room

The Association of American Law Schools is meeting in Washington, DC, this week for its annual meeting, which is themed "Academic Freedom and Academic Duty." This Inside HigherEd article previews the conference, which three members of the Educating Tomorrow's Lawyers team are attending, and questions whether the conference is covering topics that have been in the media lately, including: "the increasingly prominent questions about transparency, job placement rates and 'value' in American legal education, and the attendant concern that law schools could be next (after the 'vocational' and for-profit programs subject to the U.S. government's new 'gainful employment' rules) in line for federal scrutiny and regulation."
