IAALS and Center for Divorcing Families Receive 2015 ABA Problem Solver Award
The ABA Section of Dispute Resolution has awarded IAALS and the Resource Center for Separating and Divorcing Families (RCSDF) the 2015 John W. Cooley Lawyer as Problem Solver Award. This honor is bestowed upon individuals and organizations that employ their problem-solving skills to forge creative solutions. Institutional recipients are those that have “exhibited extraordinary skill in either promoting the concept of the lawyer as problem-solver or resolving individual, institutional, community, state, national, or international problems.”
The RCSDF, and the IAALS model on which it is based, serves separating and divorcing families in a holistic and multidisciplinary manner, providing therapeutic, legal education, dispute resolution, and financial planning services. This out-of-court process is designed to provide parents with the problem-solving tools that will empower them to work together toward outcomes that are in the best interests of their children. IAALS and the RCSDF have been recognized nationally for this first-of-its-kind program, and IAALS is working to replicate the model in communities and universities around the country.
Representatives from IAALS and the RCSDF will be on hand to accept the award at the Section's Spring Conference in Seattle, Washington, on April 17.
