Pull Out the Yearbook: Study Links Your Smile to Likelihood of Divorce

November 18, 2013

Studies on predictors of divorce abound. Among the more recent is a study exploring a connection between the intensity of one's smile—as memorialized in a yearbook picture—and the likelihood of divorce. A DePauw University professor examined the yearbook photos of several hundred subjects of varying ages and then followed up with the subjects. He found that the individuals who smiled the least in their photos were five times more likely to divorce when compared with those who smiled the most intensely. Interested in your odds but don't have your yearbook handy? Look no further than the state in which you live. Earlier this month, The Huffington Post published a map showing the states and cities with the highest divorce rates.
