Following Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton’s announcement that she will retire in December with two years remaining in her term, the editorial board of the Cleveland Plain Dealer called for Governor Kasich to use a committee to screen and recommend qualified candidates for appointment to her seat. Such committees are used to fill mid-term vacancies in eleven states that elect their judges.

Earlier this month, IAALS submitted several comments in support of a proposed paraprofessional licensing program in California. Under the proposed plan, paraprofessionals would be thoroughly qualified for the job by completing the rigorous requirements for licensure. Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark S. On October 1, we came from Albany Law School to present on “How an Inclusive Strategic Planning Process Leads to Faculty Adoption of Institutional Student Learning Outcomes” at the 4th Annual Educating Tomorrow’s Lawyers Conference in Denver, Colorado. Albany Law’s process of developing learning outcomes began years ago with a conference hosted by Albany Law’s Center for Excellence in Law Teaching (CELT) on “Setting and Assessing Learning Objectives from Day One.” With the momentum and knowledge from the CELT conference and the development of the Albany Law Strategic Plan, which emphasized that “a competency-based curriculum ensures that students achieve the core knowledge and transferable skills necessary to succeed in a fast changing environment,”

The Utah Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission has published its evaluation reports and recommendations online. The Commission was created by statute in 2008 and undertook midterm evaluations in 2010 that were only for self-improvement purposes.
