First Female Judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine Sworn into Office (Updated)

The Obama administration’s efforts to diversify the federal judiciary continue. Nancy Torresen, the first female judge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine, was formally sworn into office on May 3, 2012. On May 7, 2012, the Senate confirmed Judge Jacqueline Nguyen to the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and Chicago lawyer John Lee to the Northern District of Illinois. Judge Nguyen is the first Vietnamese American and Asian-Pacific woman to serve on a federal appeals court and Lee the first Korean-American on the federal district court in Illinois.
