IAALS is Growing with Addition of Three New Staff Members
IAALS is expanding: both in terms of our capacity for impact and in the literal expansion of our ranks. Specifically, we are delighted to announce that Managers Nathaniel Baca and Zack DeMeola and Research Assistant James Swearingen joined our organization in June. Already, they are broadening and deepening our work.
Attorneys Nathaniel and Zack are supporting our myriad projects across all substantive areas of our work. They will become embedded in project teams to provide research, coordination, monitoring, and back-up to help us achieve outcomes.
Nathaniel, or “Nate,” has a background in research and analysis as well as the social sciences, criminal law, and economics, and also plays the trumpet with local symphonies. He most recently worked for the Center for Social Science Research and Innovation and, prior to that, had a career in public service, first working for the City of Gallup Economic Development Center and then as a public defender.
Zack came to IAALS after a successful career at large private defense firms where he represented and advised clients on issues ranging from privacy and data breaches to complex commercial matters in the health care and higher education sectors, among others. He excels in research, writing, and problem solving, as well as Italian cooking.
With empirically based research being at the core of the IAALS process, our new Research Assistant, James, is reporting to Senior Research Analyst Logan Cornett and will manage the collection of data that informs our policy recommendations. He is parlaying his research skills and experience learning new systems (which he gained by earning a Master of Science in Health and Sport Science) into the legal system.
For those keeping track, IAALS' staff has grown to 23 talented individuals who are dedicated to the cause of forging innovative and practical solutions that make America’s legal system the best in the world. Together we are advancing justice!
