New Mexico Supreme Court Justice Patricio M. Serna to Retire
New Mexico Supreme Court Justice Patricio M. Serna will retire August 31, 2012. He has served on the Court since 1996 and was elected by his colleagues to serve a two-year term as Chief Justice, from 2001 through 2002. Justice Serna has served on IAALS' Board of Advisors since our beginning in 2006.
In a piece called "Justice Serna's Legacy," Kevin Washburn, dean and professor of law at the University of New Mexico School of Law, wrote, "Each of the five members of the New Mexico Supreme Court serves on numerous boards and commissions, but none serves quite so cheerfully and enthusiastically as Justice Serna... He genuinely relishes his participation with these important organizations."
As an organization that has been the beneficiary of Justice Serna's generosity, we can certainly vouch for this. We're grateful for the guidance he's provided us through the years and we wish him a rewarding retirement.
