IAALS Spring Board of Advisors meeting.

IAALS’ 15th Annual Rebuilding Justice Award Dinner was held on Thursday, April 20, at the Cable Center in Denver. We celebrated the 2023 Rebuilding Justice Award and Alli Gerkman Legal Visionary Award honorees, and everyone who has joined together with IAALS to advance justice we can believe in.

The IAALS Lawyers Council is a national group of law firms and businesses whose members are invited to participate in IAALS’ work, to engage in our process, and to have a voice at the table of meaningful and impactful reform within the justice system.

As part of our Redesigning Legal Speaker Series, IAALS and its partners examined the various legal service providers beyond lawyers who help people with their legal problems, and discussed why it will take this entire ecosystem to fully tackle the access to justice crisis.

This convening provided a venue for experts and national partners to develop recommendations and best practices for states developing allied legal professional programs. In June 2023, IAALS published and disseminated the results as well as a framework for a new national model for allied legal professionals based on best practices in Allied Legal Professionals: A National Framework for Program Growth.

As part of our Redesigning Legal Speaker Series, on October 6 IAALS and its partners explored innovation in access to courts and judges—from nonlawyer representation in the courtroom to virtual hearings to venturing outside the courthouse and into the community.

As part of our Redesigning Legal Speaker Series, on July 28, IAALS and its partners explored alternative lawyer licensing programs, how they differ from the current bar exam, what some jurisdictions are already testing, and how these alternatives might impact the profession.

IAALS invited a group of key players in the regulatory movement to participate in two days of thought leadership sessions to further creating synergies between and among regulatory reform efforts around the country.

This invitation-only convening brought together thought leaders from across the country to begin formulating the future of judicial performance evaluation. Outcomes from the convening will help formalize IAALS’ forthcoming recommendations for modernizing the evaluation process nationwide.

IAALS’ 14th Annual Rebuilding Justice Award Dinner was held on Thursday, April 28, at the Cable Center in Denver. We were thrilled to welcome people back in person after three years to celebrate this year’s Rebuilding Justice Award and Alli Gerkman Legal Visionary Award honorees, and to thank you—and many others—who have joined together with IAALS to advance justice we can believe in.

As part of our Redesigning Legal Speaker Series, on March 31 IAALS and its partners explored the issues surrounding opening up access to the law, resources in the court systems, and the potential for new opportunities. 

As part of our Redesigning Legal Speaker Series and in partnership with the National Conference of Bar Presidents, on February 24 IAALS and its partners explored the role of state bars in regulatory reform.

On January 26, 2022, as part of our Paths to Justice Summit Series and in partnership with the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, IAALS hosted a webinar exploring the intersection of racial justice and public trust and confidence.

On December 15, as part of our Paths to Justice Summit Series, IAALS hosted a webinar focusing on barriers to equity in our justice system.

As part of our Redesigning Legal Speaker Series, on December 7 IAALS and its partners explored the opportunities being created by regulatory innovation for legal education.

On November 10, as part of our Paths to Justice Summit Series, IAALS hosted a webinar featuring access-to-justice leaders to discuss how we utilize the key data from the US Justice Needs survey to drive action and system improvement.
