    On Thursday, April 25, 2019, we held our annual Rebuilding Justice Award Dinner, which recognizes individuals who exemplify the spirit of innovation and leadership that we champion across all of our work toward building a legal system that is accessible, fair, reliable, efficient, and accountable.

  • Civil Justice Initiative Webinar: Making Motions Practice More Efficient and Effective

    This webinar highlighted expedited processes for discovery and dispositive motions recommended by the Conference of Chief Justices Civil Justice Improvements Committee and the corresponding rules and case management techniques that can make this approach successful. Our presenters included Judge Randall Warner, of the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona, and Don Bivens, a partner at Snell and Wilmer and former Chair of the Arizona Civil Justice Reform Committee.

    Our 7th Annual Educating Tomorrow's Lawyers Conference was held November 1-2, 2018, in Denver, Colorado. Our topic this year covered Phase II of our Foundations for Practice project.

  • CCJ/COSCA Midwest Civil Justice Summit

    In October, the Midwest Region Summit was held in Kansas City, Missouri, to discuss implementation of the Recommendations of the Conference of Chief Justices. The Summit consisted of a dynamic mixture of plenary sessions, workshops, and state team planning sessions. The purpose of the Summit was to encourage each state to learn about civil justice reform efforts nationwide, and to provide each state with an opportunity to develop an action plan for reform or other activities in their respective jurisdictions.

  • Civil Justice Reform Webinar: Learning from Arizona's Success

    Arizona has long been a leader in civil justice reform and this webinar highlighted the results of their civil justice reform efforts, including the new civil rule amendments that went into effect July 1. Arizona’s efforts provide important insight into state reform efforts nationally.

  • Webinar: A Teaching Roundtable

    Building Foundations for Practice in Law School

    With support from NALP and SALT, this webinar was designed to introduce the Foundations for Practice study and to lead a discussion on how legal education can use the Foundations study to improve and better prepare students to become successful lawyers. The webinar provided real-world examples to inspire and inform others and will discuss not only how the Foundations study is already being used in law schools across the country, but also the potential for its use in the future.

  • 11th Annual Rebuilding Justice Award Dinner

    On April 19, 2018, IAALS held its annual Rebuilding Justice Award Dinner, which recognizes individuals who exemplify the spirit of innovation and leadership that we champion across all of our work. This year, we honored the Conference of Chief Justices for their leadership and unanimous adoption of recommendations designed to secure the promise of justice for all.

    In April, the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions teamed up for a Summit in Boston, Massachusetts, to discuss implementation of the Recommendations of the Conference of Chief Justices. The Summit consisted of a dynamic mixture of plenary sessions, workshops, and state team planning sessions. The purpose of the Summit was to encourage each state to learn about civil justice reform efforts nationwide, and to provide each state with an opportunity to develop an action plan for reform or other activities in their respective jurisdictions.
